Devi Hasta Shailputri opens the Navratri story the way the festival itself does, with Maa Shailputri, the first of the nine forms of Durga, worshipped on Day 1. She is shown here in her traditional form, a trishul in her right hand and a lotus in her left, riding Nandi the bull, with a crescent moon resting on her forehead, all hand painted in gold across a rich orange cotton base, the colour of new beginnings that this first day carries.
The base fabric is cotton, chosen for how comfortably it carries a wearer through nine long festive days, from morning rituals through evening dandiya. Every motif is painted freehand by an artisan directly onto the fabric, not printed, so no two sarees in this design are ever exactly alike. A matching blouse piece is included with this saree.
Shailputri's iconography is simple and grounded, in keeping with her role as the daughter of the mountains and the form that begins the entire nine day journey. The trishul she holds represents mastery over body, mind, and spirit, the lotus stands for purity that remains untouched by the world around it, and Nandi the bull represents dharma, steady and unwavering. Scattered across the drape are hand painted red palm prints, a nod to the aashirwad tradition of blessing handprints, marking protection and divine presence, and a fitting motif for a saree named Devi Hasta, meaning the hand of the Goddess.
Devi Hasta Shailputri is built specifically for Day 1 of Navratri, when orange is the colour worn in her honour, though its warm palette works across the wider festive season as well. It is part of our Shakti Rang collection, alongside the Day 3 Raudra Chandrika saree and the Day 7 Charan Kalratri saree, each built around a different form of Durga.

Devi Hasta Shailputri is handcrafted by Indian artisans, painted entirely by hand rather than printed. Small irregularities in the painted motifs are a natural part of the handmade process, not a flaw.
Dry clean only. Hand painted work does not hold up to hand washing or machine washing, so dry cleaning is the safest way to protect the painted motifs over time.
